WTAS: President Donald J. Trump Talks Safety, Security, and Refunding Law Enforcement in Howell, Michigan

Press Releases

LANSING, Mich. – President Trump visited the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office yesterday to talk about the crime crisis impacting American communities due to Kamala Harris’ dangerously liberal policies.

While Kamala Harris supports defunding the police and has fundraised for violent rioters, President Trump supports our law enforcement and pro-public safety policies, like cash bail.

“Trump promoted his administration’s focus on providing more support, protection and funding for law enforcement. He also attacked Harris as a law and order prosecutor-as-president narrative, calling her soft on crime, pointing at her past record as California Attorney General.”

“[Harris] is, as you know, the most radical left person ever even thought of for a high office, certainly for the office of president. People don’t know the real Kamala, but I do, and people that do what I do, they also know,” Trump said on Tuesday. “She’s so far left that nobody can imagine, and her real thoughts are there.”

Trump stood alongside sheriff’s deputies in the city of Howell and tarred Harris, a former San Francisco district attorney and California attorney general, as the “ringleader” of a “Marxist attack on law enforcement” across the country.”

Michigan Public Radio: Trump Visits Howell to Deliver Law and Order Address

“Trump was flanked by Republican county sheriffs as he attacked Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic presidential nominee, as soft on crime and illegal immigration and not supportive of police.

“Over the past four years, the Marxist left has waged a vicious war on law enforcement in our country,” he said. “They’ve taken away the dignity and the spirit and the life of some of these police officers and you can see why you see the crime is so out of control in our country.”

“We’re going to stop violent crime in the United States. It’s people like this that can do the job better than anybody,” Trump said, referencing the law enforcement officials standing behind him. “They do the job justly and fairly. There’s nobody like these people. Thank you.”

Trump also hit on the economy, inflation, border security and energy dominance as other talking points to support his candidacy.

He called the Republican Party the “party of common sense.”

ABC12: Former President Trump Talks Policing, Border Security at Howell Campaign Stop

“The former President says if elected to a second term he will get right to work deporting illegal immigrants and close the border with Mexico. It’s an action he claims President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris can do right now.

“They go after guys like me, but they don’t go after people who kill people,” he said. “It’s a shame what’s happened in our country, but we’re going to turn it around. we’re going to win and we’re going to win big.”

MLIVE: Donald Trump Says He’ll ‘Refund the Police’ During Michigan Campaign Stop

“Trump spoke about crime and safety in an afternoon event with media, police officers and a small group of supporters at the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office. The event was not open to the public. He touched on numerous topics regarding safety concerns he’s been addressing during his campaign like immigration, border control and the importance of local police officers.”

“Kamala Harris will deliver crime, chaos, destruction and death,” Trump said in one of many generalizations about an America under Harris. “You’ll see levels of crime that you’ve never seen before. … I will deliver law, order, safety and peace.”

Trump has sought in recent weeks to blunt the enthusiasm that Harris has attracted since President Joe Biden ended his reelection campaign and endorsed her. That has involved both dark predictions about what electing Harris would mean for the country and efforts by Trump’s advisers to set up events where he can try to draw specific policy contrasts. On Tuesday in Michigan, the subject was crime and public safety.”

WWJ: Trump Talks Crime and Safety at Campaign Event in Howell, Rails Against ‘Defund the Police’ Movement

During his speech Tuesday Trump denounced the so-called “defund the police” movement, which he says presumptive Democratic nominee Kamala Harris supports, instead calling to “refund the police.” The Harris campaign denies these claims.

“When I’m president of the United States again we will never even think about or mention the words defund the police,” Trump said.

“It’s a dangerous business and we have to give them protection and we have to give them love and respect. And that’s what we’re going to do. We were doing it and they’re not doing it now. We’ll give our law enforcement heroes the kind of protection and the resources that they so dearly deserve. And I will crack down on Marxist DAs who refuse to enforce the law,” Trump said.
