ICYMI: RNC Sues Michigan Secretary of State – Again

Press Releases

In case you missed it, the Republican National Committee and the Michigan Republican Party are suing Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson – again.

Look – our lawyers are getting pretty busy. We’re never going to stop defending Michiganders’ right to fair and secure elections, but if Benson could just follow the law, life would be a whole lot easier.

What law is being ignored this time? Glad you asked.

The RNC and the MIGOP are suing Benson for failing to follow Michigan’s law that requires the ballot number matching on the ballot, poll book, and ballot return envelope, which ensures ballots are cast and counted properly.

“Suing our Secretary of State to enforce the law she swore an oath to uphold is becoming commonplace in Michigan, because the Michigan Republican Party and the Republican National Committee are committed to ensuring the integrity and security of our elections. Ballot number matching is a law on the books because it’s a simple safeguard to protect Michiganders’ fundamental right to vote. While Benson continues to circumvent our election laws for her own political agenda, we will fight tirelessly so Michiganders have no doubts when they start to go to the polls,” said MIGOP Chairman Pete Hoekstra.
