LANSING, Mich. – Yesterday, Senator J.D. Vance hosted a rally in Big Rapids, Michigan to highlight Kamala Harris’ economic and manufacturing failures over the last three and a half years she’s been in office.
Following the rally, the Senator handed out rootbeer floats at a local A&W. Read what they are saying here:
The Detroit News: Vances Uses Michigan’s China-Linked Battery Plant to Project to Slam Harris
“Republican vice presidential hopeful JD Vance on Tuesday criticized state taxpayer funding that will benefit a China-linked battery parts manufacturer, doubling down on months of criticism of the Big Rapids-area project by Republicans and some members of the community.”
MLIVE: JD Vance Criticizes Gotion Battery Plant’s Ties to China at Big Rapids Rally
“Republican vice presidential nominee JD Vance blasted a planned $2.36 billion battery parts plant in mid-Michigan for its ties to China, speaking near the factory’s site in a campaign rally on Tuesday, Aug. 27.
Vance, the running mate of former President Donald Trump, was joined by Michigan GOP lawmakers at a farm near Big Rapids where they stirred up criticism linking Chinese battery maker Gotion Inc. to the Chinese Communist Party, calling the Gotion plant “a threat to America’s national security.”
“U.S. Sen. JD Vance rallied with supporters in Big Rapids on Tuesday as he looked to turn local frustration over an electric vehicle battery plant project with ties to China into enthusiasm for former President Donald Trump’s campaign this fall.”
“Kamala not only wants to allow Chinese communist companies to build factories on our soil; she wants to pay them to do it with our tax dollars,” Vance said Tuesday.
“We’re gonna take this country back; we’re going to elect Donald J. Trump president, and it’s going to start here with the great people of Michigan.”
“Among the first issues Vance addressed was the job market, attempting to blame Harris and the Biden administration for the country’s economic struggles. He said Harris is “undoing the incredible work that Donald Trump did” to shore up American manufacturing jobs.
Vance began by saying “last week the biggest heist in American history happened right under Kamala Harris’s nose.”
“Somebody stole 818,000 jobs that she and Tim Walz had been bragging about,” Vance said, referencing a report last week from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. “Where’d they go?”
“I think that it resonates in Michigan maybe more than any other state because Michigan actually saw what happened when those factories closed down,” Vance told 13 ON YOUR SIDE. “It’s not just an economic issue; it’s a dignity issue. You have a lot of families broke apart because those factories disappeared. We just want to rebuild a good middle class so that people can live the American dream. I think in Michigan, we get that more- or, I should say, Michiganders get that more than most folks.”
Whether issues like Gotion or other points highlighted by the campaign will be enough to succeed in this critical region is set to answer itself with the general election just over two months away.”

“Remember, the tie-breaking vote she cast to send inflation through the roof,” Vance said. “Remember that vote? That vote also made Chinese companies like Gotion eligible for millions of your taxpayer dollars,” Vance said.
Vance partly blamed Vice President Kamala Harris for the project.
“When you make your own stuff with the hands of American workers, the whole country prospers. We know that in Michigan better than anywhere,” Vance said.

“According to Vance, he and former President Donald Trump have a plan to reduce high inflation, which is also causing, if only indirectly, inflated prices and mortgage rates.
“We’re going to fix it the same way Donald Trump actually implemented low inflation policies in the beginning,” Vance said. “We have to unleash American energy. Drill baby drill and that drives down the cost of everything. You have to build more houses and stop so many illegal aliens from coming into this country.”

“Americans can’t afford groceries because of your leadership, Kamala,” he said. “Young people can’t afford homes because of the policies that you have enacted as vice president.”
After the rally, Vance was asked about housing affordability. He says that government regulations and illegal immigration have further stressed the market for homebuyers.
“They’re competing with Americans for scarce homes. That is fundamentally going to increase demand and thus drive up the cost of housing for American citizens,” he said. “And we also have a supply problem. We’re not building enough, right? It’s too hard to build things in this country. Now, partially that’s because energy is too expensive, so let’s bring down the cost of energy.”
