ICYMI: Detroit Pastor Urges Other Black Faith Leaders to Support Trump for President

Press Releases

In case you missed it, Black Pastors from Detroit urged other Black faith leaders to rally behind President Donald J. Trump this November.

“God uses people who we may question their character,” said Pastor Lorenzo Sewell of 180 Church at a Trump campaign-sponsored gathering of a few dozen Black voters and faith leaders at a restaurant in Detroit’s Greektown neighborhood. “Furthermore, he who has not sinned, let them cast their first stone, right? So we all know that we all have all sinned and we’ve all fallen short of the glory of God.”

President Trump has steadily made inroads with the black community this election cycle, recent polling showing that 16% of young black men and 12% of black voters in swing states are supporting him over Kamala Harris.

Why?

“I think Black voters appreciate what’s real,” said Christina Barr, 35, of Pontiac.

A prominent pastor in Detroit has called for other Black faith leaders to support Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, saying any concerns about the former president’s character should not deter them.

Sewell said he supports Trump because of the former president’s alignment with him on issues such as support for Israel and anti-abortion views.
