Harris-Walz: The Dangerous Choice for Michiganders

Under Kamala Harris and Tim Walz, Michigan families are less safe. As vice president, Harris has presided over a shocking  37 percent increase in violent crime, 42 percent increase in rape, and 63 percent increase in robbery.

It’s no shock that Kamala Harris chose a running mate who, just like her, has utterly failed to keep his constituents safe. Under Walz’s disastrous leadership, crime in Minneapolis and St. Paul has soared, with violent crime now “much higher” than pre-pandemic levels.

The surge in crime is no coincidence—it’s the direct result of their support for defunding the very people who keep our communities safe: the police. Harris and Walz are both dangerous Democrats – vocal supporters of defunding the police. Harris has called for a “reimagining” of law enforcement, while Walz has advocated for “alternatives to policing.”

These dangerous positions have had real consequences, especially in Minnesota. When rioters burned down Minneapolis, Walz hesitated to send in the National Guard, allowing an estimated $700 million in damages to occur. Instead of protecting Minnesotans and demanding those who destroyed others’ livelihoods be held accountable, Harris raised money to bail out the rioters who wreaked havoc across the city.

It gets worse. Both Harris and Walz support eliminating cash bail, essentially letting dangerous criminals walk free to terrorize communities again. Harris has been clear that she wants to “end mass incarceration,” while Walz signed a weak-on-crime omnibus bill in 2023, overhauling the state’s criminal justice system in a way that prioritizes criminals over victims. Their approach is clear: empty the jails, undermine law enforcement, and leave Americans vulnerable.

In contrast, President Trump took real steps to make America safer. Under his leadership, violent crime fell for three consecutive years, and his Operation Legend initiative led to the arrest of over 5,500 violent criminals. Trump also signed the bipartisan First Step Act into law, providing meaningful criminal justice reform while ensuring that former inmates had the opportunity to lead crime-free lives and find employment.

Unlike Harris and Walz, President Trump believes in protecting law-abiding citizens and holding criminals accountable. Harris and Walz have a record of putting Michiganders’ safety at risk, and it’s why Michiganders will elect President Trump to Make America Safe Again in November.
