Benson Moves to Appointment-Only at Secretary of State Branches Despite Unprecedented Backlog

Benson is also asking for more money, despite lackluster performance metrics

LANSING, MICH—Activist-Democrat Secretary of State, Jocelyn Benson, announced that Michigan Secretary of State branches will move exclusively to an appointments-only system at a time when appointment-wait-time is over two months in many cases.

“As a candidate, Jocelyn Benson promised people 30-minute waits, but they are getting 3 month waits which is unacceptable,” said Sen. Ruth Johnson, who served as Michigan’s Sec. of State from 2011 to 2019. “We did 50,000 transactions EVERY DAY when I was Secretary of State. Adding 35,000 appointments a month isn’t going to fix this.”

Michigan’s Senate Majority Leader, Mike Shirkey, published an op-ed in the Detroit News making strong suggestions of how to save taxpayer money, including an investment in bonding community locations for some branch services, as well as piloting mobile SOS locations to send to hard-to-reach areas.

While Benson and Democrats are focused on raising taxes and spending more money, Republicans are interested in protecting the taxpayer from out of control, Democrat spending.
