Independent Redistricting Commission must reject Bruce Adelson as an attorney, consultant, and advisor
LANSING, MICH—The Michigan Republican Party today is calling on the Independent Redistricting Commission to reject Bruce Adelson as an attorney, consultant, and advisor.
Adelson has a history as a regular Democrat donor, has taken clearly leftist positions on both social media and his academic writings. He will be an unchecked liberal voice on this allegedly non-partisan commission.
During Adelson’s service as part of the Arizona Redistricting from 2011-16, the commission was so fraught with partisan infighting that just days ago, the commission decided to hire both a Republican and Democrat attorney to guide their upcoming efforts.
“We were hopeful that this commission would take non-partisan redistricting seriously, but instead is on the verge of hiring a progressive activist attorney and Democratic donor to guide its processes. Arizona learned its lesson after hiring Bruce Adelson and we should learn from their mistakes. This move betrays what voters were promised when they voted for a non-partisan commission,” said MIGOP Chairman Ron Weiser.
