LANSING, MICH – The Michigan Republican Party issued the following release following a big win in protecting the integrity of our elections in the Michigan Court of Claims:
“This is an incredible victory for election integrity and the rule of law in Michigan,” said Ambassador Ron Weiser, Chairman of the MIGOP. “This legal win will help deliver the transparency needed in our elections and it sends a clear message to Jocelyn Benson and her Democrat cronies that meddling in our elections to their benefit won’t be tolerated. Our goal as a party continues to be the same: we want to make it easier to vote and harder to cheat and we won’t take our eyes off the ball.”
Background on the lawsuit victory:
- The RNC and Michigan GOP sued Michigan’s Democrat Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson on September 30th for unlawfully restricting the rights of poll challengers.
- These restrictions included:
o Creating a last-minute new credential form for poll challengers, subverting years of precedent and adding a barrier to poll challenger access
o Making it more difficult to deploy poll challengers in emergency situations by creating an artificial deadline for when they can be appointed
o Restricting which poll workers the poll challengers can communicate with, regardless of the circumstances, and unlawfully inhibiting which challenges raised by challengers become part of the election records
