MIGOP Calls on Whitmer to Immediately End Lockdown Measures and Cancel Rule Violation Orders and Fines Imposed on Individuals and Small Businesses

Whitmer should show hardworking Michiganders the same grace and understanding that she’s asking folks to give her

LANSING, MICH—The Michigan Republican Party is calling on Gov. Gretchen Whitmer to immediately end all lockdown orders, safely re-open the Michigan economy and rescind all rule violation orders and fines imposed against individuals and small business owners.

“Gov. Whitmer is asking for leniency and forgiveness after violating her own pandemic orders that restricted diners to six per table,” said Ted Goodman, Communications Director of the Michigan Republican Party. “Whitmer should show small business owners and individuals the same forgiveness and grant immediate relief by rescinding all rule violation orders and refunding any and all fines imposed on Michiganders and Michigan businesses.”

Whitmer and her administration aggressively pursued rule violations during the pandemic, closing businesses, imposing massive fines, and even arresting business owners in some cases.

“Gov. Whitmer, yet again, violated her own pandemic orders which tells us one of two things,” said Ted Goodman, Communications Director of the Michigan Republican Party. “She either doesn’t believe in the efficacy of her own pandemic response orders, or she believes she is above the law. Both scenarios are unacceptable.”

Whitmer apologized Sunday after she was seen in a photo with a dozen people at an East Lansing bar—violating her own pandemic order restricting indoor dining to no more than six people per table.

“When it comes to Gov. Whitmer, it’s, “rules for thee, but not for me,” added Goodman.
