MIGOP Issues Statement Addressing Whitmer’s Benton Harbor Directive

Lansing, MI – The Michigan Republican Party today released the following statement after reports that Gov. Gretchen Whitmer failed to take appropriate action to ensure Benton Harbor residents have access to clean drinking water for the past 3 years:

“We believe every Michigander should have access to safe and clean water. While it is about time Gretchen Whitmer takes a closer look at the situation in Benton Harbor, where Michiganders have been without access to clean and safe drinking water, the timeliness of her addressing this issue raises far more questions. Gretchen Whitmer has known about this issue for three years and previously posted a plan, that is no longer accessible to the public, addressing how she was going to clean up our drinking water. Whitmer and her administration’s inaction in addressing this issue is yet another failed promise to add to the growing list and this one comes with catastrophic implications for the residents of Benton Harbor.” – Gustavo Portela, MIGOP Communications Director
