MIGOP Slams Whitmer for Flip-Flopping on Anti-Police Rhetoric as Crime Spikes in Michigan

October 11 2022

LANSING, MICH – The Michigan Republican Party released the following statement after Gretchen Whitmer tried to reverse course on her previous comments in which she voiced support for the “spirit” of the defund the police movement:

“Gretchen Whitmer encouraged violent vandalism when she publicly supported the “spirit” of defunding the police,” said Elizabeth Giannone, MIGOP Deputy Communications Director. “Where was her support of law enforcement officials when Michigan communities bore the brunt of her careless remarks? Voters see right through Whitmer’s farcical change of heart as she now desperately attempts to course correct her earlier words. It’s obvious she is scrambling to change her position after watching the polls tighten, but nothing Whitmer says now will change the fact that crime has risen under her tenure and assaults against police officers are on the rise. Voters are tired of Gretchen Whitmer’s reckless flip-flopping and are ready to elect Tudor Dixon on November 8.”
