LANSING, MICH – The Michigan Republican Party issued the following statement after the 2021 Crime in Michigan Report was released on Thursday, showing an increase in violent crime rates under the Whitmer Administration:
“Michigan’s crime rate has spiked under Gretchen Whitmer and Dana Nessel and the latest report continues to confirm what we already know,” said Gustavo Portela, MIGOP Deputy Chief of Staff & Communications Director. “Gretchen Whitmer and Dana Nessel are weak on crime and have failed to focus on keeping our neighborhoods safe which is why in 2021 we saw a continued spike in crime including aggravated assault. What’s worse perhaps is the trajectory we’re seeing in police officer employee counts with the latest report showing more officers are quitting at an alarming rate no doubt because of Gretchen Whitmer’s dangerous defund the police rhetoric. It’s no wonder why she’s failed to earn the endorsement of police officer organizations, who instead chose to endorse the only candidate who will make Michigan safe again, and that’s Tudor Dixon.”
