MIGOP Supports Continued Attempts By Republican Legislature To Provide Michiganders With Relief

May 27 2022

LANSING, MICH – The Michigan Republican Party released a statement in support of Michigan Senate Republicans’ plan to suspend sales, use, and excise taxes on gas for a three month period this summer, bringing much-needed relief at the gas pump to Michiganders:

“Michigan Republicans have once again stepped in where Gretchen Whitmer has failed to take action,” said Gustavo Portela, MIGOP Deputy Chief of Staff and Communications Director. “Gas prices in Michigan seem to hit new, historic highs every week, yet all Gretchen Whitmer has done is veto Republican-led relief packages to ease the sting most Michiganders continue to feel in their wallets. One glance at any news cycle on any given day shows you how brutal these gas prices have been to families, businesses, and individuals. The only solution is to usher through the Senate relief plan to bring immediate financial relief to all Michiganders at this crucial time.”

Detroit Free Press: “Michigan lawmakers push new proposal that would pause gas tax this summer.”
