New Poll Shows Michigan Voters Overwhelmingly Support Photo ID Laws For Voting

72% of respondents favor showing photo ID before voting, including 58% of African American respondents.

LANSING, MICH—A new poll from Strategic National revealed widespread support across Michigan for showing photo identification prior to voting among Americans of all races and political affiliation.

On the specific question of showing photo identification prior to voting, 72% of respondents said they were in favor, compared to just 21.9% who were opposed. This includes 58% of African American voters who support showing ID.

The poll reveals that a majority of Black voters believe voters should be required to show photo identification in order to vote, despite irresponsible rhetoric from Democrat politicians like Michigan Lt. Gov. Garlin Gilchrist, who is inflaming racial tensions in an effort to block the common sense reforms. (RELATED: MIGOP Demands Specifics from Lt. Gov. Garlin Gilchrist on His Claims of Racism)

“While Democrats, Woke Corporate America and their media allies continue to spread misinformation about legitimate efforts to protect our elections process, this polling shows that voters of all races and political affiliations overwhelmingly support common sense reforms to make it easier to vote and harder to cheat,” said Ron Weiser, Chairman of the Michigan Republican Party. “Our legislative efforts are all about protecting each voter’s voice.”

Respondents were also overwhelmingly in favor of stronger security measures for absentee ballot drop boxes with 69% said they are in favor of stronger security and just 23% opposed.

Additionally, 76% of respondents said they believed the signature on an absentee ballot should be properly verified and match the signature of the voter before the vote is counted. Only 16.3% said they were opposed.

The results of Strategic National’s poll in Michigan is consistent with a new AP-NORC poll that was just released, which surveyed voters nationally, and found that 72% of Americans, vast majority of Republicans and a slim majority of Democrats are in favor of requiring photo identification to vote.

The poll was conducted by Strategic National March 29th through the 31st, 2021 and surveyed 800 likely General Election voters. It has a 3.47% margin of error. The respondents were 34.4% Republican, 36.3% Democrat, 22.2% Independent, and 7% identifying with another party.
