The Policies Of Biden and Whitmer Are Ruining The Pocketbooks Of Workers And Families

“Gretchen Whitmer and Joe Biden continue to cripple Michiganders with their disastrous economic policies that have led to historic inflation and force families to pay more for just about everything,” said Gustavo Portela, MIGOP Communications Director.  “Whitmer could bring immediate financial relief to families experiencing pain at the pump by passing Republican-led legislation that would offer tax cuts during an economic crisis of historic proportion. Instead, the proposal is collecting dust on her desk as she considers a veto. We need to retire Gretchen Whitmer’s out of touch policies and elect a new Republican governor who will stand up for Michiganders when they need it most.”

BIDEN AND WHITMER POLICIES EXASPERATED THE ENERGY CRISIS

  • The price of gasoline has surged to a statewide average of $4.25 in Michigan reflecting the nationwide energy crisis under the Biden Administration
    •  There is no county in Michigan where average gas prices are below $4.20.
  • Both Biden and Whitmer engaged in a war on fossil fuels which are contributing to the energy crisis.
  • According to a new study published this month by Consumer Energy Alliance, if Line 5 Shuts down:
    • Michiganders should expect to pay between $1.8 billion and $2.2 billion in more in gasoline per year.
    • Fuel prices will increase by 9.47 percent to 11.66 percent more than current levels.
    • Families and businesses across the Midwest would pay an additional $23.7 billion more in gasoline and diesel over five years.
    • There will be a loss of air transportation service at Detroit International Airport as well as other regional airports in the state.
    • Farm income will be disproportionately affected by the shutdown.

WHITMER BROKE HER PROMISE IN 2018 TO NOT RAISE THE GAS TAX

WHITMER IS REFUSING TO TAKE THE STEPS NEEDED TO BRING DOWN THE COST OF LIVING IN MICHIGAN

  • Whitmer signaled she will veto a Republican bill to suspend the Michigan gas tax
    • The Michigan gas tax is 27 cents per gallon.
    • Whitmer instead called for a federal gas tax repeal which is a much smaller 18 cents per gallon levy.
    • Michigan has one of the highest gas tax rates in the country,
  • Whitmer promised to veto Republican legislation to lower income tax rates and create new tax breaks for families and seniors.
  • Last July, Whitmer vetoed tax relief for small businesses navigating the pandemic.
