Fed Chair Confirms Whitmer is Holding Back Michigan’s Economy

(Lansing, Mich.) – Today, Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell confirmed that the policies of Gretchen Whitmer are holding back the economy in the Great Lakes State. Powell made it clear that “very generous jobless benefits” like the $300/week currently being handed out by Gretchen Whitmer and Joe Biden are among factors that have held people from going back to work.

Republicans in the Michigan Legislature passed HB 4434 which would have repealed the supplemental federal benefits, but Whitmer went against Michigan workers and the small business community by vetoing the legislation.

“Gretchen Whitmer unilaterally crushed Michigan’s economy through her draconian Covid restrictions and now she’s doubling down by using taxpayer dollars to pay people to stay home while small businesses desperately search for workers,” said MIGOP Chairman Ron Weiser. “It’s time for Whitmer to start doing her job and follow the lead of the 26 states that have ended these federal handouts and get Michiganders back to work.”
