Whitmer Accepted More Illegal Money – What Else Is New?

Whitmer Thinks Campaign Finance Law Does Not Apply To Her, Rules Are For Thee But Not For Me

“It’s no surprise that Gretchen Whitmer continues to believe the rules, which every other candidate for Governor is required to follow, don’t apply to her,” said Gustavo Portela, MIGOP Communications Director. “She’s accepted donations from extreme liberal activists like George Soros, who ardently supports the defund the police movement. It’s part of a reckless pattern she’s displayed throughout her tenure and it’s going to end when we elect a new Republican Governor next year turning the page on this disgraceful behavior.”

WHITMER ACCEPTED ANOTHER $550,000 IN ILLEGAL CAMPAIGN CONTRIBUTIONS
  • Michigan campaign finance law limits individual contributions to $7,150 to limit special interests from gaining influence on candidates and elected officials.
  • In her October filing, Whitmer reported she accepted $550,000 in excess campaign contributions, this is on top of the $3.4 million in excess contributions reported in July.
  • Earlier this month, the Michigan Democrat Party was fined for receiving $42,000 in excessive contributions in the 2018 cycle when Whitmer first ran for governor.
  • The Michigan Republican party filed a lawsuit against Whitmer demanding that she return her illegal campaign contributions.
WHITMER CAMPAIGNED ON GETTING “UNLIMITED SPENDING” OUT OF POLITICS
  • In 2018, Whitmer campaigned on a “sunshine plan” which specifically called for ending “unlimited campaign spending.”
    • Whitmer has accepted nine contributions at or above $100,000 including five contributions at $250,000.
  • Whitmer is citing an alleged loophole in the law derived from a nearly four-decade old ruling that allows candidates facing a recall to raise unlimited amounts of money.
WHITMER’S CAMPAIGN IS IN TROUBLE IF SHE NEEDS OUT-OF-STATE MILLIONAIRES AND BILLIONAIRES TO KEEP HER AFLOAT
  • Whitmer is being propped up by out-of-state elite donors such as J.B. Pritzker of Illinois, Chicago Cubs Co-Owner Laura Rickets and the Resnick family of California.
  • Whitmer accepted a $25,000 contribution from George Soros.
  • In her October quarterly filing, Whitmer raised more money from Los Angeles than she did Detroit.
  • In her October quarterly filing, more than one-third of Whitmer’s individual contributions came from out-of-state.
