Whitmer’s Incoherent Pandemic Response Continues To Hurt Michiganders

Whitmer’s Response – Theater of the Absurd

LANSING, MICH—Gov. Gretchen Whitmer expanded the state’s mask mandate to cover 2-year old’s, the latest example of her incoherent, politically driven response to the pandemic.

Experts panned the decision as misguided and unhelpful as the state faces the worst COVID-19 numbers in the country.

“Gov. Whitmer’s incoherent pandemic response is hurting Michiganders, and her latest decision to mandate masks for toddlers is proof that she doesn’t get it,” said Ted Goodman, Communications Director for the Michigan Republican Party.

Dr. Peter Gulick, an infectious disease expert at Michigan State University, called it impractical and said it, “may be near impossible to keep a toddler wearing a properly fitted mask.”

The World Health Organization, a group President Joe Biden and Democrats refer to in glowing terms, released an official report that states masks shouldn’t be required for children 5 years old and younger.

“In general, children aged 5 years and under should not be required to wear masks. This advice is based on the safety and overall interest of the child and the capacity to appropriately use a mask with minimal assistance,” the World Health Organization says.

Does Gov. Whitmer disagree with the WHO’s guidance? Will she explain the science behind her policy decisions?

At her last press conference, Whitmer scoffed at questions asking if she’d review aspects of her administration’s own policy decisions, even as COVID numbers reach record levels across Michigan and directed blame at the people of Michigan and a, “compliance,” problem.
